Boulder Gains a Cloud Storage Start-up

There is a new guy in town, SolidFire, an all solid state cloud storage company that was founded in 2009 in Atlanta. With $11M is Series A funding, secured in February, the company moved its headquarters to Boulder to tap into the plentiful storage talent pool that still populate the front range of the Rockies.

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting the visionary and CEO Dave Wright. Dave is no stranger to the challenges of traveling the entrepreneurial path. His previous company, Jungle Disk, a cloud based back-up and storage software developer was sold Rackspace in 2008.

Targeting the cloud computer providers they have developed a controller specifically to optimizes the performance and durability characteristics of solid state in a very cost competitive manner. Currently the company is still in stealth mode so details are not available.

However, I am looking forward to understanding how they plan to deliver an all SSD solution at a price digestible by highly competitive cloud providers.

So as they say, watch this space more to come.
